I have been in the field of data strategy for years as both a practitioner and an academic University of Cambridge, my suggestion has always to think counterintuitive but be aware of convention.
What does this mean?
Think about the organisation, what is happening outside the organisation as well as current and future technologies. Be aware of convention but don’t just accept convention. You lead the data strategy so:
- Develop a process,
- Test it,
- Focus on fast iteration and continuous monitoring
- Be entrepreneurial
- Be successful and smash it.
Data moves very fast, if you want to lead you need to be Agile, think ahead and take the right decision for your organisation
